本課程將以西洋藝術音
樂作為主要欣賞對象。上課方式主要針對西洋音樂史不同時期的同類型音樂進行比較欣賞。並針對音樂欣賞相關知識的獲得、音樂欣賞可能遭遇的問題進行討論。同
時，也注重以文化的角度、多元的視野來思考音樂的種種現象與表現方式。本課程將隨堂發放講義，每週課後均有指定欣賞作業，為了方便同學們課後複習，請同學
自行至總圖多媒體中心進入隨選系統(IOD)聆聽作業。每週欣賞作業將納入課堂及期中、期末考試範圍。本學期有一次課堂小考（第四週），另須繳交一篇書面報告（第十四週），報告內容為本學期個人參加音樂會欣賞心得（約1000~1500字，須以電腦打字並附上音樂會入場卷）。書面報告計分方式：按時繳交者至少有85分（報告績優者可達95分以上），遲交者70分，未交者0分。
Objectives
This is an introductory course that
proposes to give a general view of which genres are found in the European
Classical Music. This course is filled mostly with discussions of musical
compositions – symphonies, concertos, operas, and the like – that people have
found more than more rewarding as they have listened to them repeatedly. These
discussions are meant to introduce students to the contents of these works and
their aesthetic qualities: what goes on in the music, and how it affects us. An
acquaintance with musical concepts and musical terms can be useful, by helping
students grasp more clearly what they already hear in music. The process of
analyzing things, pinpointing, and naming can actually assist listening. This
course intends to make students become more alert to aspects of music when they
have been pointed out. And sharper awareness contributes to greater
appreciation of musics, and of the other arts as well.

期中考30%，期末考30%，出席率、課堂書面報告及課堂小考40%
