Course description:
This course offers an introduction to the
life and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91). It will examine the nature
of his musical style through in-depth discussion of a selection of his
masterworks, and will also consider the relationship of this style to his
biography and to his cultural and social environments.
Objective:
Through regular listening to Mozart's
music, the writing of short papers, and intensive discussion in small groups,
students will become familiar with basic aspects of Mozart's musical language
and with his life and times.
